Coming Full Circle – How Three Ships Beauty Co-Founders Connie Lo and Laura Budget Landed their Product on the Same Shelves They Sourced Early Ingredients From
Three Ships Beauty Co-Founders Connie Lo and Laura Burget started their business with just $4,000.
With a mission to be the world’s most effective natural beauty brand, they pooled the limited savings they had as recent university grads, and started making products by hand.
As they explain, “We were driven to start Three Ships Beauty in 2017 after experiencing intense frustration with the lack of affordable and natural skincare on the market. Brands were either overpriced or greenwashed, and misled consumers with marketing jargon and products that weren't effective.”
A full circle moment
Three Ships Beauty is now available at Whole Foods locations in the U.S.–solidifying its status as a brand that’s available throughout North America.
Not only is it an amazing milestone, but it’s also a surreal one for these entrepreneurs.
When the duo first created their first minimum viable product, they sourced the ingredients from Laura’s local Whole Foods. Within just five years, their natural beauty products can be found on the same store shelves they shopped from to create the first product that was made available to their consumer base.
More milestones on the horizon
Connie and Laura aren’t slowing down, either.
“We're excited about a new product that will be launching at the end of October, 2023. It's filling a huge white space in the natural beauty market, and we know it will become one of our best-sellers.
Another milestone we're anticipating achieving by the end of 2023 is profitability, which has been our team's north star.”
Their advice
Laura and Connie have taken leaps and bounds since they launched five short years ago, and they did it with the help of the wisdom, knowledge, and passion that they brought to the table.
Their advice to women entrepreneurs is this:
“Learn to sell. Both of us have sales backgrounds which we believe have helped accelerate our business growth tremendously.
Sales is extremely important in all aspects of business–whether you're selling your vision to a future investor or employee, your product to a customer, or even your dreams for the company to yourself (every day has its ups and downs!). The book Never Split The Difference by Chris Voss is a great book on sales and negotiation. We’d recommend you give it a read!”
